Fleurs À l’intérieur

Fleurs À l'intérieur

In this series I looked at domestic plants in a similar light as zoo animals – held against their will, trapped behind bars (glass), and alienated from their natural environment.

Why do we keep house plants, fish and other ‘pets’? The Biophilia Hypothesis proposes that we have evolved preferences for contact with such elements of nature, and research suggests that there are negative consequences to our modern environment which may be ameliorated through exposure to plants, green areas and natural landscapes.

Like Playgrounds, these plants are both a cure for, and symptom of our domesticated society and its negative effects.
